Although it is impossible to avoid every car accident, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has revealed the safest vehicles of 2012. Having a safer vehicle may help reduce your likelihood of serious injury when you are involved in a crash. While not all injuries can be avoided, it brings peace of mind to know you and your family may be a little safer.
How is Safety Rating Determined?
Safety ratings for Arizona car accidents are determined by a car’s crashworthiness, including how well it protects the driver and passengers inside. The IIHS rates vehicles as good, acceptable, marginal or poor. It bases these ratings on many tests, including:
- High-speed front crash test
- High-speed side crash test
- Rollover test
- Seat/head restraint evaluation
To get a top safety rating, the car must rate well in all four tests. If it doesn’t rate well in one or more of the tests, it gets a lower rating. More information is available at www.iihs.org/ratings/.
