Tucson I-10 Car Accident Involves Two Vehicles

As Tucson car accident attorneys, we were saddened to hear about a two-vehicle accident that caused multiple injuries on November 13 on I-10 near milepost 315. According to reports from News 13 KOLD, the accident occurred around 8:30 p.m., just two hours after a similar car accident nearby.

Causes of This Tucson Car Accident

According to reports, rain was in the area and the roadways may have been wet and slick. One car involved in this accident was pulling a rental trailer. Police are still investigating. However, as car accident attorneys, we have seen many accidents in which a car swerved or slid into another because of slick roadways, cars pulling trailers were traveling too fast for the conditions, and one car cut off another and caused a collision. Interestingly, there was a similar car accident just two hours earlier, indicating that poor roadways may be a factor. In some cases, the government entity responsible for warning drivers of dangerous conditions may be at fault.

Pima County Car Crash Statistics

There were 7,831 people injured in car crashes in Pima County in 2010, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT). The Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) suggests that many drivers have trouble with trailers because they don’t realize how much brake time is required to stop and follow too close to the cars in front of them.

Police Officer Involved in a Fatal Arizona Runaway Trailer Accident

A 26-year-old police officer was killed in an Arizona car accident involving a runaway trailer. According to a news report, the fatal car crash occurred in San Carlos Apache. A trailer that came off its hitch struck the victim’s vehicle. The young tribal police officer had only been with the department for 30 days before the fatal accident. It is unclear what caused the trailer to become unhitched.

The Los Angeles Times recently conducted a study that found at least 164 people were killed by runaway trailers between the years 2000 and 2007. The investigation uncovered that most fatal runaway trailer accidents involved light and medium trailers and not large truck trailers. In such cases, the car driver, trailer manufacturer or person responsible for attaching the trailer to the vehicle may be held liable for the injuries, damages and losses caused.

Trailers that become detached have been known to cause serious Arizona crashes. In such cases, an investigation will be needed to determine why the accident occurred. Was the trailer hitch defective? Were proper safety measures taken? Did the vehicle owner or a shipping company fail to properly load the trailer? In such cases, the at-fault party can be held liable for the Phoenix runaway trailer crash.
