A 56-year-old woman in a wheelchair was recently killed in a Phoenix car accident, AZfamily.com reports. According to the article, the pedestrian accident occurred on 7th Street near Vogel Road in Phoenix when the woman was fatally struck by a Dodge pickup truck. She died at the scene of the crash. According to the Arizona Department of Transportation, 122 pedestrians were killed and 1,245 were injured in 1,523 pedestrian accidents statewide in 2009. Many pedestrian accidents are caused by negligent drivers or dangerous roadway conditions. Whenever someone is killed in an Arizona pedestrian accident, investigators will try to determine how the crash occurred and who was responsible for the collision. In cases where it is determined that driver negligence was a factor, the family of a deceased accident victim may hold the driver civilly liable for the victim’s wrongful death.
An Arizona wrongful death claim is a civil lawsuit that allows a deceased victim’s family to pursue compensation for their loss. Compensation may be available for medical expenses, funeral bills, lost future wages, and pain and suffering. Anyone who has suffered a loss in an accident would be well-advised to speak with a skilled wrongful death attorney regarding their legal options.
