In recent news, a 64-year-old woman was reportedly injured when she fell from a trail while she was hiking on Mount Elden (AZCentral 07/20/2011). The Flagstaff Fire Department received a 911 call about the woman. Afterwards, fire department and medical transport personnel were deployed, hiking on the mountain until they found the woman. After she fell, she cut her head and then lost consciousness for an unknown period. The woman was then treated for shock, nausea and cervical spine injury. She was then brought to the hospital and has been said to be in good condition.
Falls can be fatal to older active individuals. The chances of falling and of being seriously injured in a fall increase with age. Therefore, it is important to be prepared for indoor and outdoor activities.
