Another rollover accident was reported Thursday morning which left one person dead and four others seriously injured (AZ Central 06/23/2011). According to reports, the fatal accident happened on Interstate 10 in western Arizona at around 6:12 a.m.
A spokesman for the Arizona Department of Public Safety said that a vehicle carrying 6 people was travelling on eastbound I-10 near milepost 68 in La Paz County and for reasons yet unknown the driver lost control and veered into the center median before swerving back to the right causing the vehicle to roll over.
Three people were ejected from the car. The Arizona rollover crash killed one of the passengers while injuring the others, four of whom were brought to a local hospital in critical condition.
The incident caused the eastbound lanes of the I-10 to be temporarily blocked for more than 2 hours as medical helicopters land on the scene.
Car accidents such as a rollover have a high fatality rate. While any vehicle may have the tendency to rollover, there are certain types where the risk is higher. Because of having higher centers of gravity, light trucks such as SUVs and vans have a higher chance of ending up in a rollover accident as opposed to other vehicle types (Safercar.gov).
Excessive speeding is a major factor in rollover accidents. Keep yourself and others safe by driving at moderate speeds and avoiding alcohol before getting behind the wheel.
