Three Passengers Suffer Smoke Inhalation in Arizona Greyhound Bus Accident

Three people were treated for smoke inhalation after the Greyhound bus in which they were passengers caught fire on a southern Arizona freeway while headed to Los Angeles from Dallas. According to The East Valley Tribune, the bus fire occurred on the 10 Freeway northwest of Tucson. Fortunately, the driver of the bus and the 37 passengers onboard escaped major injuries. Three passengers suffered smoke inhalation and were treated at the scene and released. Officials say the fire was caused by a mechanical problem in the engine compartment.

It is indeed fortunate that this bus fire did not result in catastrophic injuries. Fires occur due to a variety of reasons, but the most common cause is some type of mechanical problem or failure. It is important to look into whether the mechanical problem occurred as a result of poor maintenance on the part of the bus company.

In cases where negligence is involved, the bus company can be held liable for any injuries caused to passengers. Injured Arizona bus accident victims can seek compensation for medical expenses, loss of wages, hospitalization or any accident-related treatment costs. Bus companies, whether they are private or public, owe their passengers the “utmost duty of care.” This means that bus companies are absolutely liable for what happens to their passengers in transit, especially if the Arizona bus crash is the result of driver negligence, error or wrongdoing.

Arizona Bus Crash Near Hoover Dam Kills And Injures Tourists

The National Transportation Safety Board reported that the bus accident that took the lives of a number of Chinese tourists may have been the bus driver’s fault. There was initial speculation that there may have been something wrong with the door, which distracted the driver, and that “sun glare” also might have blinded the bus driver prior to him losing control. Preliminary investigation found nothing wrong with the door nor did they find any other mechanical problem.

These Chinese tourists were likely enjoying a wonderful occasion and vacation before their bus crashed. It is tragic and extremely unfortunate that lives had to be lost and it is probable that the families of the Chinese tourists involved in this wrongful death accident are unaware of what can be done in terms of seeking compensation for lost wages and other expenses.

As Arizona wrongful death attorneys and personal injury lawyers, we understand that though this case probably does not involve seeking “punitive damages,” the filing of a lawsuit in this situation may very well increase safety for people and perhaps prevent future bus accidents. Since companies are usually in the business to make a profit, the likelihood that the bus company will take safety precautions increases if they are forced to face a lawsuit and they are unlikely to take such measures if there is no threat to their bottom line.

Lives are saved through personal injury lawsuits. Assuming that what happened to this tour bus was preventable, had DW Tour and Charter of San Gabriel, California been exposed to previous lawsuits, they would have been more diligent about safety issues. It is unfortunate but sometimes necessary that companies be threatened with loss of profits in order to safeguard the lives and preclude serious injuries to innocent people.

Should anyone have questions about this bus accident or another serious bus accident, we invite those people to contact us at Breyer Law Offices, P.C. It is necessary that injured parties retain a lawyer from the state in which an accident occurred, or in this case perhaps the state in which the defendant is located, in order for negligent parties to be held responsible for the damages caused.

Arizona School Bus Accident Raises Questions

When a school bus causes serious personal injury in an accident, the situation of those involved can become more complicated than with other bus accidents. Residents of the greater Phoenix, Arizona metropolitan area recently saw their city in the national news after a horrible bus collision. An article explains how a bus carrying Western Valley elementary school students went on for about a mile after it first went out of control. This Arizona school bus accident seriously injured 26 people and caused at least a dozen accidents.

Many of these people affected by the incident will never receive the compensation to which they are entitled because of the 180 day deadline for filing a “notice of claim.” They must file a notice of claim properly to the right people and with the correct content. If they do not file a lawsuit during this time, the personal injury plaintiffs will have lost all rights to compensation. The one bright spot in this incident is that none of the children were seriously hurt; but for the rest of the people on that Phoenix street that suffered serious injury, it may be vital that they quickly find the best Arizona personal injury lawyers they can.

It is difficult to decide whether or not to bring a claim after any type of vehicle accident. We strongly recommend that people involved in this bus collision, or any other motor vehicle accident, gather information and have their questions answered by an expert personal injury attorney. At Breyer Law Offices, we invite those who were involved to seek information from us. We will answer your questions honestly. As experienced auto accident lawyers in Phoenix, we know that there may not be a legal claim; however, without investigating further, there is no way to know if a claim may be legally made.
