Phoenix Traumatic Brain Injury Lawyers

A traumatic brain injury (TBI) can happen in the blink of an eye. Suddenly, your life can change forever. Will you be ready for what the future will hold? Breyer Law Offices, P.C., helps clients understand what to expect following a traumatic brain injury.

TBI occurs when a blow to the head causes damage to the brain. The injury can cause an open head injury (an object penetrates the brain) or closed head injury (when an object hits the head). In either case, the individual needs to seek immediate medical attention. TBI often occurs from a motor vehicle accident, sports injury, fall, assault or strike to the head.

Traumatic brain injuries can be mild, moderate or severe. The level of injury determines what type of long-term effects will result. Research is critical to help you understand what symptoms are typical of TBI. Organizations including the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke are an excellent resource.

A case of mild traumatic brain injury may result in a brief loss of consciousness, headache, dizziness, blurred vision, ringing in the ears, lethargy, sleep disturbances, changes in mood, and difficulties with attention, memory and concentration.

Moderate and severe TBI can cause some of the same symptoms that become increasingly worse. Additional symptoms include vomiting, convulsions, seizures, agitation, restlessness, slurred speech and numb extremities.

As you can see, any of these symptoms on their own can be debilitating. A patient with traumatic brain injury will need medical care, therapy, as well as help with daily activities. He or she may no longer be able to work and quickly incur astronomical medical expenses and out-of-pocket costs.
