Phoenix Nursing Home Abuse Attorneys

Do you suspect that a loved one is being abused in a nursing home, hospital, or private care facility? If so, then the State of Arizona allows you to pursue both criminal and civil legal action against the abuser.

As elder abuse attorneys in Phoenix Arizona, we've put together some information about the types of abuse that occur in nursing homes and warning signs to watch out for:

  • Emotional abuse
Warning signs include changes in personality or behavior, or frequent arguments or tension between the elderly person and the caregiver.
  • Physical abuse
Warning signs include unexplained cuts, sprains, fractures, bruises, or bedsores; any signs of being restrained, for instance rope marks on the wrists; or the elderly person is being kept in an over-medicated state.
  • Sexual violation
Warning signs include unexplained genital infections or venereal disease; torn or bloody underclothing; and vaginal or anal bleeding.
  • Exploitation or manipulating of the elder person's finances
Warning signs include sudden large withdrawals from the elderly person's bank accounts; changes in regular banking habits; abrupt changes in financial documents, such as a will; and loss of possessions.
  • Elder Neglect
Warning signs include drastic weight loss, malnutrition, or dehydration; staff delaying or refusing to allow visitors to see the elderly person; and staff not allowing the elderly person to be alone with visitors.

Other kinds of abuse include isolation or confinement; stalking; and certain criminal violations. If there are any signs of this kind of abuse, neglect, or exploitation happening in a nursing home, then immediate action must be taken to hold the abusers responsible.
