Phoenix Police Reports for Car Accident Victims

by Phoenix Car Crash Lawyer - Mark Breyer

The Phoenix Police Department Public Request Unit has detailed steps that you must take to obtain a copy of your police report after being involved in a car accident. Many times, it is important to have a copy of your police report as soon as possible to obtain the information that is contained within the police report. If you are not able to get a copy of your police report, it is possible that some of the vital information can still be released to you so that you are not giving up any of your legal rights.

To access a police report of the crash you were involved in:

  1. You can go down to the Phoenix Police Department and make a request for a copy of your police report. The office is generally open during business hours, but not holidays. The address is 1717 N. Grant Street, Suite 100, Phoenix, Arizona 85034. You can also mail in a request for a fee. The fee will be dependent on the number of pages that are in the report.
  2. You can request a copy of your police report at the following link: https://secure.phoenix.gov/phxssld/tars/home.jsf

Currently, there is no charge for obtaining a copy of your police report through this link. You will have to have the names of the parties involved and the date of the accident. If you do not have this information, make sure to have the police report number and the name of at least one party involved and you should be able to get a copy of the police report in that way.
  3. You can mail in your request as well to the following address. It is best to call in before to make sure that the police officers have completed the police report and that it is ready for pick up. You do not want to make a special trip down to the police department and then find out it is not ready. Be prepared for some long lines as well because many times there are a lot of people waiting to obtain information in this area.

Once you have the police report, review it to make sure that all the information is completed. Many times the officer might not include the adverse driver's insurance information or complete name details. If this is the case, you may want to call the officer who completed the report to get the completed information. It is especially important to look at the citations, even though these cannot be admitted in a court of law, the citations are still important to know.

If your vehicle was taken away by a tow truck, it is important to call the tow truck company so that you can get your vehicle out of storage. If you are calling for a family member who has sustained serious injuries because of the Phoenix car accident, then you may need to have a power of attorney to talk on their behalf. For serious injuries or wrongful death claims, it is crucial to make sure that you have pictures of the vehicle. If you think you may have a product defect case, then it is important to keep the vehicle itself.
