How to Avoid Pedestrian Accidents while Walking or Jogging in Carefree

- Always look left-right-left before crossing the street. What’s more, don’t assume that you can beat traffic. Although you have a better gauge of the speed of traffic than a child, you still may not understand how fast a car is really traveling, especially if it is dark, cloudy, or raining.
- Don’t stop and go back when crossing the street. One of the most dangerous things you can do is stop and go back for something you have dropped when you are crossing the street. You will become virtually invisible when you bend over and may put yourself in a dangerous place with the timing of the lights.
- Wear visible clothing if you will be out at night, and even during the day. When you’re out walking, and especially if you are jogging, you should do whatever it takes to make sure that you are visible. Wearing dark colors in the early morning and early evening will cause you to be nearly invisible to traffic.
- Avoid wearing headphones when you are jogging or walking outside. The problem with this action is that it can cause you not to be able to hear cars coming, or horns honking. This could put you in serious danger of being hit by a vehicle.
- Never run out into the road unless it is absolutely necessary and you have checked for cars first. The sidewalk and running trails are meant for runners and walkers, not the street!
Remember, protecting yourself should always be your first priority when you are out running or walking, no matter what the purpose or destination. You may not be able to prevent every accident, but you can reduce your risk of being involved in a collision.
