Pedestrian Killed in Fountain Hills
We were saddened to learn about a recent pedestrian crash that resulted in the death of an elderly man. The crash occurred at Hempstead Drive and Palisades Boulevard early Wednesday morning, October 17, 2018. The driver of the car remained at the scene of the accident, and no other details were released.
Because it was early in the morning, it is possible that there was less visibility on the road. While it is unclear whether the pedestrian was using the crosswalk or not, the busy time of rush hour and the decreased visibility could have contributed to the accident.
Pedestrian accidents often happen near crosswalks because drivers fail to yield, fail to see the pedestrian, or are speeding through an intersection to beat a red light. Pedestrians can rarely avoid such accidents because vehicles travel so quickly that there isn’t time to move out of the way, especially if they are elderly or have reduced mobility.
When pedestrians are struck by cars, particularly fast-moving vehicles, they can suffer a number of very serious and even fatal injuries, including neck and back injuries, head injuries, broken bones, spinal cord injuries, and other injuries related to a severe impact. If pedestrians survive the impact, they often face a lifetime of rehabilitation, physical therapy, the need for prescription medication to manage their pain, and more. This could lead to their inability to work and provide for their families. Coupled with the burden of high medical costs, many families suffer greatly after an accident like this. When the victim dies, families are left without their loved one, they are faced with funeral costs and emergency medical expenses, and lost wages.
The Husband and Wife Law Team works to help victims and their families during tragedies like this. We negotiate settlements with insurance companies on behalf of the victims and their survivors, which can go to cover things like funeral costs and medical expenses, as well as lost wages and pain and suffering.
