How to Prevent A Wrongful Death: Is It Possible?

By Breyer Law Offices on January 9, 2015

No one ever wants to be part of a wrongful death. The word alone sounds scary when you think about it. Death is an awful thing. Of course, if there was something you could do to prevent a wrongful death, you would want to know, right? Well, here are ways you can prevent a wrongful death when driving. Motor vehicle accidents are one of the most common causes of wrongful deaths in the nation.

For your own safety, and the safety of others around you, put a stop to these bad driving habits starting today:

  • Stop abruptly, especially when another driver is tailgating you. Stopping abruptly can cause you to be rear-ended, which could be fatal.
  • Swerve onto the shoulder of the road to avoid hitting the vehicle in front of you. If you swerve onto the shoulder of the road, you may hit a bicycle rider or pedestrian on the side of the road, or even cause your vehicle to roll.
  • Slam on the brakes in order to avoid hitting a vehicle in front of you. Slamming on the brakes may cause your brakes to lock or give out. Instead, lightly pump the brakes and turn your wheels slightly to avoid hitting the vehicle ahead of you. This will reduce the impact on your vehicle, and theirs, thus reducing your risk of critical injury.

With so much misinformation out on the internet today, it’s easy to learn the right ways to protect yourself. Once you’ve weeded out the bad information and learned the true prevention methods, you’ll be much safer on the road. Sometimes, all of the above pointers seem obvious, but when it comes to actually being on the roadway, drivers tend to forget these simple steps. As long you keep safety in mind, you’ll likely avoid any accidents.
